Mt Sinai

Mt Sinai isn’t much of a hike but one that still draws in a lot of people. If you decide to ascend it on foot it can take you up to two and half hours to summit but well worth the trek as you get 360 degree views of the surrounding areas. One reason it draws in lots of foot traffic, and camel traffic, is because it is said to be the location that Moses was given the Ten Commandments by God. Mt Kenya is not just a single peak but a mountain range that was built from a volcano long ago that is now extinct. The highest elevation of Mt Kenya reaches 17,057 ft, more than 3 miles hile! Unsurprisingly it is the second highest mountain in Africa behind Kilimanjaro. Andringitra National Park

When you think Madagascar I doubt the first thing that comes to mind is hiking but Andringitra Massif or “desert of rocks” is a mountain range in Andringitra National Park and a maximum elevation of 8,720 ft. Isalo National Park is an hikers dream as you get a variety of different terrain to traverse. You can hike through deep canyons, sandstone formations, grass land, oases and waterfalls. Mt Mulanje

Location: Chiradzulu

Mt Mulanje is a group of peaks, over 20, that form the Mulanje Massif or mountain range. Mulanje offers incredible views and a very doable summit of its highest point at 9,849 ft, Sapitwa Peak. Often times mist will surround the slopes up to the summit leaving the peak exposed above which gives it the nickname of “Island in the Sky”. Mt Mulanje is a nice warm-up for beginners and professionals alike and most should do fine getting by for 3 days with the Teton Sports Explorer 4000.

Mt Toubkal is the highest mountain in Morocco with a peak elevation of 13,671 ft. Accessible at any time in the year it’s quite a site to see both with and without the snowy slopes. Fish River Canyon

Location: South Namibia

Fish River Canyon is the largest canyon in Africa covering an area of 2,300 square miles. It is roughly about 100 miles long, up to 16.5 miles wide and as deep as 1,800 ft is some spots. Blyde River Canyon

Location: Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve, Mpumalanga

The Blyde River Canyon is only 15.5 miles long and on average 2,460 ft deep. It is a spectacular site to behold and every turn of the canyon’s winding path will leave you jaw dropped. You’ll experience sheer cliffs dropping more that 2,500 ft down, a thousand different species of flora and even rare wildlife like the bald ibis, as well as a number of different primates. Drakensberg refers to the eastern portion of the Great Escarpment that encloses the central South African plateau. Drakensberg or Dragon’s mountain was given the name years ago and thought to derive from the pointy tops of the plateau resembling the back of a dragon, old myths as well as dinosaur bones that may have been found. While most of it is in South Africa, the peak is actually Thabana Ntlenyana in Lesotho at an elevation of 11,424 ft. The area is vast and you can make your own trek as short or long as you prefer. Rwenzori Mountains or the Mountains of the Moon, is Africa’s third highest mountain with it’s peak elevation occurring at Margherita Peak, at 16,762 ft, which is actually located in the DRC. You can choose to do a trekking/climbing route up to the summit which lasts roughly 11 days or opt for the easier trekking down below in the foothills in Uganda. Tiger’s Nest Monastery Trail

Location: Paro

Distance: 4 miles

Trail Time: 1 day

Taktsang Monastery or Tiger’s Nest Monastery is a small monastery built into a huge granite cliff in the 17th century. It was built where the saint Padmasambhava had mediated for 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, 3 days and 3 hours and is believed to have brought Buddhism to the Bhutanese people. In 1998 a fire devastated the monastery but the government quickly oversaw the renovation of the monastery back to its original form. This short day hike doesn’t really require for you to take much as there’s a small cafe on the way up the trail but if you want to carry water, snacks or a change of clothes then consider the smaller High Sierra Loop backpack!

Mt Kailash Kora Trek

Mt Kailash Kora is a large mountain the the Tibetan region of China with a peak elevation of 21,778 ft. Carstensz Pyramid Base Camp Trek

Location: Sudirman Range, Papua

Distance: 81 miles

Trail Time: 5 – 9 days

Carstensz Pyramid which also goes by Puncak Jaya is a part of the Sudirman mountain range of the western central part of Papua Province. It has a max elevation of 16,024 ft and the first snowfield reached was in 1909 by a Dutch explorer but it took till 1962 for there to be a summit. Mt Rinjani Summit Trail

Location: Gunung Rinjani National Park, Lombok

Distance: 21.1 miles

Trail Time: 2 – 4 days

Mt Rinjani is definitely one you want to put on your bucket list and should immediately check off if you’re ever in Indonesia. The peak of this mountain, which is an active volcano by the way, is at 12,224 ft but it looks much much higher when above the cloud tops. Mt Agung Summit Trail

Location: Bali

Distance: 10 miles

Trail Time: 1 – 2 days

Mt Agung is another volcano that completely dominates the surrounding area with its imposing dome. The peak elevation of this volcano is 9,944 ft so as far as volcano hikes go, it’s a bit on the smaller side but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. Mt Agung is home to the ‘Mother Temple’ of Besakih and is of huge religious significance to the people on the island. For this short hike you shouldn’t need more than a small 22 liter Osprey Talon to get you up and back down the mountain.

Salak Trail

Location: Java

Distance: 6 – 8 miles

Trail Time: 1 – 2 days

The Salak Trail is a much easier hike to do and easily accomplished in one day if you prefer. You’ll reach a max elevation of 4,641 ft and get great pictures of yourself crossing the volcanic crater. Mt Salak itself however has an elevation of 7,254 ft and is an eroded volcano. Yes, another one. What’s interesting is that the site has been evaluated for geothermal power development. Another interesting thing about this trail is that you might just find you come across airplane wrecks as well.

Mt Fuji

One of the most well known mountains on this list is Mt Fuji, an active volcano that last erupted on December 16th 1707. The peak of the mountain reaches 12,388 ft and provides incredible views for a sunrise if you’re up early enough. Located only 62 miles from Tokyo is presence is well known and a very popular hiking destination for both locals and tourists. If you’ve never heard of Petra, I can almost guarantee that you’ve at least seen it. Petra is a famous archaeological site that has been featured in a number of movies including: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Transformers; Revenge of the Fallen, The Mummy Returns and many more. The 100 Waterfalls Trek is one that can be extremely rewarding if you happen to plan the right time to go. Coming across many different sizes and shapes of waterfalls is pretty magical and being able to see them all in a day is quite an accomplishment. Just be sure to time your trek so that you go in high season so that you are not falling down all over the place in the mud, unless you like that!

The mountain that needs no introduction is Mt Everest. This beast of a mountain, the highest in the world, has an elevation of 29,035 ft. Although an extremely dangerous mountain to ascent, there are still hundres of people who manage to do it every year. Fun fact, Everest actually grows about a quarter of an inch each year. Kanchenjunga Circuit

Kanchenjunga is a mountain in Nepal that gets almost no media attention and it is actually the third highest mountain in the world at 28,169 ft. This is by no means an easier mountain than Everest, quite the opposite actually as there is a continual risk for avalanches and other weather related concerns for this mountain. Sapa Region Trek

Sapa is the home of the highest peak in Vietnam, Fansipan, which has an elevation of 10,312 ft. Bay of Fires

Bay of Fires rocks! This area on the Tasmanian coast appears as if mankind has never set foot here. Just beautiful beaches dotted with boulders and rocks are incredible, then throw in the mix that many of the boulders are red to give the appearance as if they are on fire makes for a truly magical walk along the beaches. Cradle Mountain Huts Walk

Overland Track

One of Australia’s most famous hiking tracks is the Overland Track on Tasmania. Over 8,000 people each year complete the 40 plus mile track which consists of open terrain for miles and miles, river crossings and alpine plateaus reaching as high as 4,100 ft. You might imagine that many people tackling the track each year might make it somewhat congested but fortunately it’s walk-able year round which averages out to 22 people a day. Western Arthur Range Traverse

Location: Scotts Peak Dam

The Western Arthur Range Traverse is unlike most other hikes in Australia. This hike is highly dependent on the weather which can change at anytime. It’s also one of the few hikes where you are traversing away from the short but the destination is just as magical. At the end you come upon a lake in a ridge bowl that looks like a crater. It’s just one of those places that is hard to explain without pictures. Be sure to take a gps or some other instrument with you to provide sufficient navigation as well because if you lose your way you will be in a bad situation. The last long distance trek in Australia for this list is the Australian Alps Track. This track traverses rugged alpine country that is extremely remote. Twelve Apostles Lodge Walk

The Twelve Apostles Walk is a unique and one of a kind trek that you likely won’t find anywhere else. The walk is named after the breathtaking rock stacks that rise up out of the Ocean off the coast of Victoria. These are limestone pillars that were once part of the cliffs but the wind and waves have carved them up into the pillars you see today. The Wilderness Coast Hike embraces the natural beauty of all facets of the coast. As you make your way along the 62 mile route you’ll find yourself on hidden secluded beaches, in beautifully tall forests and walking past lighthouses. You may not want to believe it but if you have no plans of getting up early after each night camping, you may want to wear earplugs to bed, the birds can be awfully chirpy early in the morning. The Bibbulmun Track is a long distance walking trail and the name comes from the Indigenous Australians of the Perth area, the Noongar people. Sierra Nevada del Cocuy

Location: Boyaca

Distance: 59 miles

The Cocuy Circuit is a hiking trip that passes a number of different mountain peaks as you traverse through Sierra Nevada del Cocuy. An incredible area, Cocuy contains a collection of impressive peaks reaching up to 17,487 ft. Best Hiking in Ecuador

Quilotoa Loop

Location: Pujilí Canton, Cotopaxi Province

Distance: Varies

Trail Time: 3 – 7 days

The Quilotoa Loop is a magnificent hike that takes place over a number of days as you traverse from village to village in the mountains of Ecuador. The loop totals 124 miles but most routes you take are much shorter that this. The number one drawing factor of hiking the Quilotoa Loop is the ability to visit and enjoy Quilotoa Lake, a water-filled caldera and most western volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. It was formed after an extremely powerful eruption in the 1200’s and left a number of peaks with the top elevation being 12,841 ft.

El Altar Trek

Location: Sangay National Park

Distance: 8 – 35 miles

Trail Time: 2 – 5 days

El Atlar with an elevation of 17,451 ft is an extinct volcano on the western side of Sangay National Park and is surrounded by a number of water features from lakes and colored lagoons formed by glaciers to incredible waterfalls. El Altar was named so because Spaniards thought it resembled four friars and two nuns listening to a bishop around a church altar. El Altar can be reached on either two or three day round-trip hikes depending on what you want to see. We recommend you at least visit the yellow lagoon, as it’s one of the first you will come upon and who’s ever seen a yellow lagoon before?!

Best Hiking in Peru

Ausangate Trek

Location: Cusco Region

Distance: 37 – 48 miles

Trail Time: 4 – 6 days

There are a number of different routes that you can take around Ausangate from 4 day hikes to 7 day hikes that include Machu Picchu. Ausangate in an incredible mountain and to really see all that it has to offer, including the painted mountains, you need to do a hike longer than 4 days. Huayhuash Circuit

Location: Áncash, Huánuco, Lima

Distance: 74 – 81 miles

Trail Time: 10 – 12 days

The classic route of the region is the Cordillera Huayhuash Circuit. Considered by many to be one of the top trekking circuits in the world, the views are incredibly beautiful just as they are dangerous. Inca Trail

The Inca Trail is a hiking trail in Peru that ends at Machu Picchu. There are three paths that overlap on their way to Machu Picchu and the only way to enter Machu Picchu on foot is through the Sungate at the end of the Inca Trail. One of the top attractions of Venezuela is Mt Roraima. It has unusual rock formations and incredible landscapes and scenery that is thought to have played a role in the inspiration of the animated Pixar film ‘Up’. Known as the “Floating Island” this plateau settles at 1,200 feet above the forest floor with a maximum elevation of 9,186 ft and is a natural border between Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana.

There are two sites I always look at when trying to book a hotel, these are:

• Trip Advisor – Trip Advisor is useful for finding places and reading customer reviews of the hotels so you know exactly what you’re booking!
• Booking.com – With millions of places to book, you can literally find a hotel in almost any city you need to fly into!

Airfare

There are a few sites I use and I’m always able to find cheap flights, we’re talking international round-trip flights under $400 all the time!

• Google Flights – For domestic flights, Google is probably the easiest, fastest and best place to look for tickets quickly.
• Skycanner – For International flights there is no better option than Skyscanner. You can search a range of dates easily and they will show you the cheapest flights first. I regularly see flights from JFK to Dublin, Milan or Barcelona for under $400 rountrip!

Concerns: Again a small issue but not having wheels is a deal break for me personally; however without the wheels this bag still does a fantastic job. Unfortunately I would not buy this bag thinking you can squeeze in two sets of skis. If you happen to have shorter skis you can fit jacket, gloves, goggles and maybe even a helmet in the end but that’s all dependent on your gear.

Last thoughts: A well-known quality product that hardly, if ever, disappoints, the Dakine single ski bag is a top notch choice if you don’t need all of the fancy features and just want basic functionality to get you from point A to point B. The fact that the bag is fully padded and offers a lifetime warranty eases our worries about it being a soft case.

Best Padded Ski Bag

Last thoughts: The Thule Roundtrip ski carrier is a solid ski bag and provides an extra bit of protection on the tips and tails of your skis while also keeping you sharp ski poles from damaging any of your gear while they are stored in a separate internal compartment.

Best Budget Ski Bag

What is it: This here is the High Sierra Double Ski Bag. Here is another soft shell ski bag but one that’s meant for the budget spenders that worry less about what their ski bag looks like and more about just hitting the slopes.

Features: High Sierra is a known player in the travel gear world and provide some of the best budget items you’ll find for your next adventure. This High Sierra double ski bag is not loaded with out of this world features or anything but it gets the job done at an extremely affordable price.

• The dimensions of this High Sierra ski bag are: 73”L x 12”W x 7”D
• Extremely lightweight at only 3 pounds
• Offered in blue/black combo and thunderstruck/charcoal/zest, don’t ask me about the name
• Main compartment can fit two pairs of skis and poles
• Padded divider and tie down straps to keep gear organized and protected from damage
• Quick release compression straps to securely hold your skis in place
• Long webbing handles that are usable as a shoulder strap
• High Sierra’s website states its products are under a 5-year warranty

Concerns: While price plays a big role in any purchasing decision, just know that although this is an extremely great price for a ski bag it is also not without some faults/features that could make it better. There are no wheels on this ski bag and the big issue in my mind is the lack of padding. It is not fully padded and thus worries me about damage to the skis.

Last thoughts: This bag is about as basic as ski bags get and that’s perfect for some. If you’re just looking to head up the mountain for a day with friends or even planning on doing road trips these should do the job fine. If you plan on walking long distances or flying, I would maybe look for something that offers wheels and more protection. Again for the price though this will get the job done.

Athalon Single Padded Ski Bag

What is it: This is the Athalon Single Padded Ski Bag. It is by far the most cost effective bag on this list yet provides everything you need to get your skis to the mountain so you can begin hitting those slopes. Being a best seller on Amazon doesn’t hurt either.

Features: The Athalon ski bag is offered in two colors for you to choose from, black and glacier blue. It has the basic features you would expect from a budget ski bag but it does them extremely well which is why it makes the list.

• Dimensions of the Athalon ski bag are: 60”L x 12.5”W x 5”D
• Extremely lightweight, this bag comes in at 2.2 pounds
• Made with a high density polyester and waterproof backing
• Fully padded from end to end
• Coil zippers that are self-healing
• Interlocking zippers
• Compression straps conform the padded bag around your skis

Concerns: At first glance everything seems great and that’s true for most people. There are a few people that had issues with the quality of the materials where one person’s skis poked holes in the ski bag and another person’s compression straps broke.

These seem to be typical one offs that you see with any manufactured product. Unfortunately I did not see any guarantee or warranty stated by Athalon so you are at their mercy as well as Amazons.

Last thoughts: The Athalon is a popular single ski bag that can certainly attribute some of that popularity to the price. Although there is no warranty mentioned, if you have any issues with this bag then you can simply buy another, that’s how inexpensive they are. If you’re worried about it, I would look for more quality out of the bag which typically means more money.

Taking everything into account with this ski bag it’s a winner in our books. Sure it may be a humble bag and nothing to write home about but if all you care about is making your way to the mountain then this bag can definitely get the job done.

Things to Consider

Capacity

The capacity of ski bags is an important consideration because it’s the difference of having to buy extra ski bags if all of your gear does not fit into one. There are countless ski cases available on the market and while most of ours listed are single ski bags, most of those are capable of holding two pairs of skis.

When choosing a soft bag, you’ll want to make sure that there is plenty of room for all of the other gear you may want to bring, jackets, gloves etc. These bags are sometimes referred to as cargo bags. It may be a smart idea to take into consideration the likelihood of purchasing another set of skis down the road as well in case you don’t want to have two sets of single ski bags.

Be sure not to overload your soft ski bags however as anything more than two sets will compromise the durability of the ski bag, as well as the handles from all of the weight you’ll be carrying around.

Wheels

Wheels just make everything so much more convenient. I would rather prefer not to carry my ski bags everywhere I go and instead elect to roll it behind me, making me much more comfortable in my travels as well as not being as tired when I finally get to the resort to ski.

Be sure to take the wheels into consideration when looking at a bag and decide if you need them or not. Make sure to do extra due diligence on soft ski bags when it comes to wheels as sometimes the design of a soft ski bag compromises the functionality of the wheels.

Also take care to notice the difference in the type of wheels. Some ski bags will come with very rugged and durable thick wheels while some will offer smaller inline skate wheels. It comes down to personal preference and really where you plan on rolling your ski bag around at.

Padding

One of the most important aspects when deciding on a ski bag has to be the padding that your skis will receive. Now while not all ski bags offer the same level of protection, that doesn’t mean the ones towards the bottom end are useless or should be disregarded. These often offer ample protection for very reasonable prices.

Typically you will find that the cheaper bags will come with a thick tarp type of material that is very durable and great for protecting your gear from scratches and the like but lack much padding. Then you have some ski bags that offer a mix of the two where the ends will be padded but the middle of the bag not so much. Finally a fully padded ski bag typically costs more because of the added protection all the way around.

A cheaper nylon type of bag will absolutely be able to do the job if you are planning on just tying your skis to the roof racks and heading out. If you decide to fly however, we recommend you look for something that offers padding as I’m sure you’re aware of but baggage handlers aren’t always that gentle.

Aside from the padding around the bag, also look for a padded divider on the inside of a ski bag if you plan on packing more than two pairs of skis. You may also want to find bags that have a separate internal compartment to hold your poles as well to avoid damage to any of your other gear.

Warranty

When it comes to ski bags typically you would prefer not to have to use the warranty as that can also mean you may be looking for a warranty on your skis, if they get damaged. However, it’s better to have one and not need or use it than to not have a warranty and need to replace your damaged ski bag.

While most well-known ski bag providers are known for making quality products, they also tend to stand by them with lifetime warranties. If there is no lifetime warranty then look to see about any limited time warranty. Barring that you may want to consider reading reviews of the ski bag in question to see how people have described its durability.

If you’re a runner or something this might be an issue but if you’re using this bag for the gym then it’s a small nuisance if that pocket doesn’t last

Last thoughts: As mentioned earlier this bag was bred for the gym goers. It’s extremely lightweight for a gym bag and has multiple pockets just for workout clothes, shoes and towels to keep them separate from the rest of the bag. Concerns: Usually when I think of drawstring bags I’m thinking of basketball but unfortunately this is slightly too small to carry a basketball. The strings are also a bit long so it may not be suitable for younger kids as the gymsack will hang fairly low.

Last thoughts: The reason the Bagail packing cubes are slightly heavier is because they are made with a little thicker material to give them slightly more durability. These are also very inexpensive packing cubes and well worth the consideration.

Concerns: Be wary of what colors you choose and where you leave your bags and/or luggage. If your packing cubes get soaked they can bleed their color onto your clothing which will ruin them. This did not happen with the black or gray bags so take this into account when deciding what color to get.

Lastly the zippers on here are not that great. They are poorly made and can potentially start pulling away from the fabric and breaking down after only a couple trips.

Last thoughts: The bags seem to be made of great quality and are very durable although I’m not sure that the zippers will hold as long. The color bleed is also a slight concern if you end up leaving your luggage in the rain.

When it comes to material there are a few things you’ll want to take into consideration. Firstly you’ll want to look at the durability of the material. Is it a flimsy cheap material that easily tears or is it a more durable higher count denier nylon or polyester?

Second, does the packing cube include mesh or some sort of breathable material that not only allows your clothes to stay fresh and not absorb the smell of the packing cube but also allows you to see through to find what you need without opening the cubes?

Then there is the issue of weight. This is not as big of a deal for most travelers but for those that weigh their luggage they want to make sure the material they are using is ultra-lightweight so as not to add any noticeable weight to their luggage. I’m not going to tell you that you should buy the highest priced ones just because they are not expensive because what I consider expensive or inexpensive may be wildly different from what you consider to be expensive or inexpensive.

There is a plus side to purchasing some of the smaller packs though. Even if you are going for say a set of 8 or 9, there usually deals where you are able to buy a couple packs and get a nice little discount for purchasing multiple sets, just keep that in mind.

Packing cubes sound useless until the first time you use them. Before I purchased my first set I simply rolled my luggage and thought nothing else of it. But once you use the packing cubes they are extremely useful and I wouldn’t go back to packing without them.

 Silverhooks Travel Cheer Duffel

This travel cheer duffel bag is designed by Silverhooks. They surprisingly have this duffel bag in 44 different colors to choose from; and it doesn’t hurt that it’s the cheapest duffel bag on this list.

This Silverhooks duffel bag is made of 600 denier polyester providing it modest durability while also keeping it extremely lightweight at only 1 pound. For those that have certain preferences on where products are made, this is imported.

Other features of this duffel bag include a shoulder strap, carry handles that are able to be snapped together in place for easy carrying and an external zippered pocket to aid you in your organization.

This bag is machine washable but is not waterproof; however, it dries fairly quickly. It’s ideal for use at the gym, as a carry-on, maybe a short road trip or perhaps to store some sports equipment and/or balls. If you need an inexpensive duffel bag quickly then look no further than this Silverhooks travel cheer duffel bag.

Samsonite Tote-A-Ton Duffel

This is the Tote-A-Ton duffel bag by Samsonite. This particular duffel bag offered by Samsonite comes in 4 different colors for you to choose from, turquoise, black, purple and red. It is made from 400 denier nylon.

This lightweight duffel bag is hand washable; however, we don’t suggest washing it in the washing machine. It also provides us with a small sense of organization as it provides a zippered pocket on the inside of the duffel which can be used for smaller items like your phone, charger, wallet etc.

This is a big duffel bag. It holds as much as some car trunks as it has over 6000 cubic inches of space and did we mention it is durable. It’s tough enough to hold 50 pounds worth of gear regularly. Unfortunately with this large size comes the downside that it cannot be used as a carry on duffel bag.

This duffel bag does not come with a built in lock or anything but you can use a TSA lock with the zippers if you’d like, either using something like a pad-lock or a key-lock.

This duffel bag is ideal for traveling if you plan on taking lots of clothes with you or if you need to bring some gear along. It’s also great for sports equipment and gear.

Under Armour Storm Undeniable II

This is the Storm Undeniable II duffel bag by Under Armour. A company that needs no introduction but we’ll give them one anyways. This Under Armour duffel bag is offered in 9 different colors for you to choose from and is made with 100% polyester.

The name of the duffel bag, Storm Undeniable, is fitting as it’s built with their UA Storm technology which is built to battle the elements and has an extremely water-resistant finish. It also boasts a tough and abrasion resistant sides and bottom.

The outside of the bag has a large front zippered pocket  as well as two side pockets, one on each side, to provide excellent organization for a duffel bag. Under Armour also included an adjustable padded shoulder strap as well as a padded top grab handle to give you total comfort for whenever you need to tow this bag around.

This bag is not machine washable so unfortunately you will have to clean by hand if you want to keep your duffel bag looking like new. This duffel bag is ideal for a short weekend trip, going to the gym or to take stuff with you to school.

Adidas Team Issue Duffel

Again we have another company that needs no introduction, however, we’ll give one anyways. This is the Adidas Team Issue duffel bag. The Adidas duffel bag comes in a number of sizes for you to choose from: small, medium or large. We are covering the medium size for this article.

Adidas also offers a number of styles for you to choose from, 14 in total! These duffel bags are made of 100% polyester which makes them strong, durable and very lightweight. If you have any problems with them then don’t worry, Adidas offers this Team Issue duffel bag with a lifetime warranty.

The exterior of the duffel bag has 3 outside zippered pockets, one on the front and one on both ends to provide a clear sense of organization for your gear. If you happen to get any of your gear dirty or wet, you can put it in the pocket that is PAK ventilated and keeps it separate from the other contents of your duffel bag.

Adidas included an adjustable and removable padded shoulder strap to help you carry your duffel bag around if you get tired of carrying it by the handles. They also have what they call their hydroshield which gives the bag a water resistant bottom to protect your stuff from water seeping into the bottom.

This duffel is ideal for the gym as you will be using that ventilated pocket I’m sure. It’s also great for school and to travel with, although if you fully pack the duffel bag you won’t be able to use it as a carry-on.

Herschel Supply Co. Novel

This is the Novel duffel bag by Herschel Supply Co. I’ve done a previous review of Herschel Supply Co and they are a great company with some fascinating products. This duffel bag is no exception.

This Herschel Supply duffel bag is offered in numerous colors. In fact your toughest decision may be deciding what color to get instead of whether or not to buy. This Novel duffel bag has 28 color variations and all of them look great!

The Novel duffel bag is made of polyester which makes it very lightweight but also gives it some durability so you can be a little rough with it.

Outside we’ll find dual top carry handles as well as a removable padded shoulder strap to provide your hands some relief when you get tired of holding this duffel.

The best feature of this duffel is actually on the bottom of and separate from the main compartment. It actually has its own little shoe holder built right into the side of the duffel bag. This makes it great for keeping everything organized and the main compartment even that much cleaner.

Speaking of clean, you’ll want to make sure you wipe this bag with a damp cloth only and don’t use any soap and definitely don’t machine wash. Inside you’ll find one interior slip pocket so there won’t be many different surface areas you’ll have to worry about.

This duffel bag is a little bit more classy in the sense you won’t be using it for the gym or sports and probably are not going to need to carry around a pair of shoes to class but it’s perfect for work as well as traveling, especially as a carry-on duffel bag.

Witzman Men’s Vintage Canvas Duffel

This is the Witzman men’s vintage canvas duffel bag and it is by far my favorite duffel bag. What makes it even better is that it’s extremely affordable and looks like it should cost 3 or 4 times what you actually pay for it.

The Witzman duffel bag is offered in 2 different sizes and 4 different colors. We’ll be reviewing my favorite, the larger 21 inch black duffel bag. It is made of a premium cotton canvas and PU leather.

This duffel bag is all about functionality and style. This vintage canvas duffel has two front zipper pockets, a side pocket, as well as, a laptop computer window for laptops 12 to 16 inches in size and a couple additional smaller pockets. Talk about organization!

But aside from that the real beauty of this duffel bag lies in its versatility in how you get around with it. This duffel bag has 3 different ways to carry it. First you have the top handle that has a nice leather grip.

Second, you have an adjustable and removable shoulder strap which is able to be hidden away by a zippered pocket.

Finally, this duffel bag has hidden shoulder straps so you can use it like a backpack! The best feature of it is that you are able to hide them away behind a rolled down locked away backing so you won’t know they’re there unless you pull them out!

Oddly enough this duffel bag is easy to clean as well since you are able to machine wash this bag in cold water separately from other items so there is no staining and then simply hang to dry!

The Witzman is perfect for school, work, and especially travel as you can use it as a carry-on also. Honestly you should take this bag with you at all times, it just looks that cool!

Eagle Creek No Matter What Rolling Duffel

This is the No Matter What rolling duffel bag by Eagle Creek. This duffel bag steps the game up in terms of price and has a couple of great features to back it up.

Firstly this duffel bag comes with a few color choices to pick from. You have firebrick, state blue, black, red clay and cobalt.

It is made with a fabric that is actually called Bi-Tech, which makes it extra durable and provides excellent protection against the elements with its water proofing and abrasion resistance. It also provides this duffel a high strength to weight ratio.

The exterior provides us with two sturdy, oversized wheels that give you another option on how you want to carry your gear around. There is also a removable and adjustable padded shoulder strap and two carrying handles that are able to be buttoned together.

This bag is made for travelers and definitely those who plan on putting it through the trials. That’s why Eagle Creek made sure to build this duffel with compression straps, heavy duty d-rings and strong reinforced webbing on the straps so that nothing starts to come undone while you’re out exploring.

This bag is great for those who are looking to go on adventures, the travelers out there that aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.

Cenzo Vecchio Duffle

This is the Cenzo Vecchio duffle bag. It is an Italian leather duffel bag that aims to please and it does just that. Now this duffel bag will set you back a little but it’s a highly rated duffel and one that simply deserves to be on this list.

The Cenzo duffel bag is made with full grain calfskin leather. Full grain is the best of the best and on top of that, it’s soft leather as well, so it feels great. It only gets better as it ages! Inside of the duffel you’ll find cotton duck canvas lining to top it off.

There are no pockets with this duffel bag as it’s truly that just a duffel bag but it looks fantastic and will last you for years. It comes with a detachable shoulder strap that is adjustable and two carry handles as well.

The bottom of the duffel has metal studs in it which helps protect the bottom of the Cenzo duffel bag so it doesn’t get scratches from pavement or start getting soaked from water on the ground.

This duffel is ideal for those looking to travel as well as to show off at work. It doesn’t hurt that it’s able to be used as a carry-on also. Trust me if you bought this duffel, you’d be showing it off all the time. As a quick note, let it air out for 24 hours after you receive it and it’ll be perfect!

Michael Kors Jet Set Duffel

This is the Jet Set duffel bag by Michael Kors. It is easily one of the most recognizable brands on this list and demands a pretty penny. This particular piece of gear by Michael Kors comes in three colors to choose from; black, brown and white.

The duffel is made from hard-wearing PVC which allows it to last for years on the road. While you’re on the road I’m sure you’ll want some organization also which the Michael Kors duffel bag provides in the form of multiple interior pockets.

The exterior of the Jet Set duffel is free of any distraction and simply is covered in the recognizable Michael Kors pattern. It also has top handles and an optional shoulder strap in case you get tired of carrying it around.

Want to travel in style and have a sense of pride, then look no further. Ideal for both men and women, this Michael Kors duffel is perfect for traveling and works as a carry-on as well.

Tumi Voyageur Durban Expandable Duffel

Here we have it, the big boy on this list. Although this is not the most expensive duffel bag out there, not even remotely close, it’s still quite pricey and the most expensive for this list. It’s the Tumi Voyageur Durban duffel bag.

The Tumi duffel bag comes in just the one color and is made from nylon and has a synthetic lining which makes it durable and lightweight.

With a hefty price tag you would expect some decent functionality out of this duffel and that’s exactly what you get. This is an expandable duffel that can provide you with extra storing capacity should you need! Simply zip-out the central compartment.

The duffel also features a removable shoulder strap to go along with the two carry handles, a footed bottom to keep the bottom from getting scratched up and a sleeve on the back to allow you to slip it over rolling luggage as well.

For optimal organization Tumi decided to add to the Voyageur Durban duffel; two interior zippered pockets, four slip pockets and an additional two pockets on the outside.

The Tumi duffel bag is perfect for anyone who loves to travel as it is able to be used as a carry-on or even an additional bag to go under the seat when not expanded. You can also use this for work and for school; although I’m not sure many college students could afford this right now.

If you’re worried it seems a little to feminine then check out this Tumi Alpha Bravo duffel bag that’s just as good for a similar price!

Our Criteria for Selecting the Best Duffel Bags

While we were reviewing duffel bags we realized that what’s important and sets one bag apart from another is the functionality and honestly the design and style of the duffel bag. A duffel bag doesn’t have anything really crazy that blows your mind but if it looks great and does one or two things different from everyone else then that’s a change we can get behind.

While pouring through hundreds of duffel bags we realized that there’s no one duffel bag that is perfect for everything, so we decided to include in this list a mixture of the best duffel bags for numerous situations.

We did leave out any bag that was not durable or had quality issues. What’s the point in a great looking duffel or functional duffel if it’s falling apart and coming undone on you? We also made sure to look at the cost of the duffel as not everyone can afford our most expensive duffel on this list nor should they have to. We want to share the love to everyone!

We’ve ran into this situation a number of times and decided to do some research and find some reliable garment bags that match anyone’s budget. We found garment bags that are as bare bones as it gets and gets the job done for basically nothing. On the other hand we found garment bags I wouldn’t be able to afford in years. Bags For Less 54 Inch Garment Bag

This is the Bags For Less garment bag and is about as budget strapped of a bag as you can get but it beats putting trash bags over your clothes. The Bags for Less is the best seller on Amazon for garment bags purely because it gets the job done for cheap.

Although this is a cheap garment bag, that doesn’t mean its quality is compromised. The inexpensive garment bag here is actually pretty neat in that it’s built to be environmentally friendly. It is made from a recyclable material that is eco-friendly!

This garment bag is actually perfect for last minute purchases to cover your clothes on a trip or even if you want to just store something in the closet. It has a full length sturdy zipper right down the center and has a reinforced hanger opening at the top; although it does not come with any hanger, you simply put your own hanger through the opening.

These bags only come in the one color shown, black with black trim and seeing as how they are not framed, this makes them great for carry-on travel! If you’re in need of a last minute garment bag, check out their prices now and you’ll probably end up buying a couple.

WallyBags 40 Inch Garment Bag

This is the WallyBags 40 inch garment bag. I know what you’re thinking, “WallyBags? What kind of name is that?” I wouldn’t blame you for asking that either. When I first heard the name I thought it was a spinoff of Walmart but luckily it is not.

WallyBags actually produce decent garment bags for relatively inexpensive prices. Now compared to the Bags for Less garment bag we just reviewed this might seem pricey but all in all this garment bag is a step up in the right direction for a reasonable price.

What I like about this WallyBags is the option of color which allows you to have a sense of identity with your garment bag instead of plain old black. I personally prefer the red but there are three other colors in addition to black as well.

WallyBags features include securing your own hangers at the very top of the bag which means that your clothes will not fall to the bottom of the garment bag and it allows for quick and easy packing. However you have to lay down the bag on a bed in order to use this clamping feature.

This garment bag is capable of holding up to 6 pieces of clothing all while keeping it somewhat wrinkle free. It won’t do as great of a job as some of our other bags on this list but it gets the job done.

Lastly there is a full length zipper that runs down the middle of the garment bag, the handles are able to be fastened together which makes carrying the bag around much easier and of course it is able to be used as a carry-on!

Travel Select Amsterdam Rolling Garment Bag

This is where the list starts to get good. We actually start to get some decent garment bags have a bit more functionality and style. This is the Travel Select Amsterdam garment bag.

This Travel Select garment bag comes in 4 colors, black, grey, red and navy.  It’s made of 1200 denier polyester which provides exceptional durability. It also has a reinforced front panel to protect your garments while traveling.

As the name implies this is obviously a rolling garment bag that is built with two in-line skate wheels, it also has an internal handle system, a detachable and adjustable shoulder strap with a non-slip pad.

The Travel Select garment bag has some decent organization going for it. It has a zippered mesh pocket on one end and two corner pockets on the opposite side as well as non-zippered mesh pockets on the side which can be used for accessories or even possibly your shoes.

There are tie straps that are very convenient to use while also using the fold out design as these two combined helps to reduce wrinkles for when you arrive at your destination. Nobody wants to have to deal with wrinkly suits or dresses!

Finally the most important question in regards to garment bags, is it able to be used as a carry-on? Unfortunately not this garment bag. But a great alternative to this bag if you need something that is a carry-on and in the same price race is the Mercury Executive Tri-Fold garment bag. Geoffrey Beene Garment Carrier

I never thought I would say this but this garment bag actually intrigues me. First off the way it is opened is almost like using a suitcase which makes packing so much easier but the part I really like is the shoe compartment.

This is the Geoffrey Beene garment carrier. It is offered in two colors being black and olive, which tend to be the most common colors for garment bags apparently. It is made of polyester and has some great functionality.

The exterior of the bag includes an outside pocket for documents, accessories or other items you may need in a hurry. A telescopic handle to allow you to roll it along the airport with ease and obviously two in-line skate wheels that do a fantastic job of navigating busy terminals.

On the inside we have some great organization set up which allows us to pack about 4 suits into this rolling garment bag. We have tie down straps and two corner mesh pockets on one side with a hanger clamp. The other side offers us two large mesh pockets for our folded shirts.

Again the obvious question about this being carry-on comes into play and this one as well is not able to be used as a carry on.

A perfect alternative for the ladies is the Cinda B Slim garment bag which looks absolutely amazing. For the guys or girls who don’t want something girly we found this Delsey Paris Helium Sky garment bag. Both of these have a similar price range and are carry-on approved!

London Fog Cambridge Wheeled Garment Bag

This is the Cambridge garment bag by London Fog. It is a moderately priced rolling garment bag that provides quite a bit of functionality. The design of the Cambridge comes in two different styles, a black and white look and an olive look. Personally the black and white is the way to go!

The obvious benefit of acquiring this garment bag is the fact that you can roll it and London Fog included 2 in-line skate wheels that are made of polyurethane to provide a very quiet and smooth ride.

Examining the exterior of the bag you will also find dual carrying handles that not only look great but are extremely comfortable to handle. You will also find one external pocket for accessories or important documents you may need at the last minute while going through security.

London Fog’s Cambridge has excellent organization on the inside. There are 6 zippered pockets/pouches in total, straps to hold your clothes in place, a section dedicated to holding your shoes as well as luggage clamps and a hook to hand the garment bag once you reach your destination.

The only downside is if you needed this to be a carry-on bag then unfortunately it’s not up to the task. As an alternate option, ladies you might find this Vera Bradley Going Places garment bag to be to your liking if you want something feminine that’s a carry-on. Otherwise, I would suggest the WallyBags 45” Garment Bag with Shoulder strap. It provides exceptional functionality and is a carry-on.

Victorinox Werks Traveler 5.0 East/West Garment Bag

This is the Victorinox Werks Traveler 5.0 Garment Bag and actually my favorite on the list. Unfortunately it’s just a tad bit outside of my price range. It has an amazing style though that is hard to turn away from with a black exterior and orange interior that just makes it pop!

Inside you will find a hanger clap to secure your garments and a foam bolster compression strap to minimize wrinkles. No longer do you have to deal with wrinkly suits after you reach your destination!

To round off the inside there is also an extension panel that allows it to hold longer items, two removable mesh storage cubes, a large zippered mesh pocket which is perfect for shoes and a zippered mesh tie pocket for additional storage!

On the exterior you’ll find a large zippered pocket, perfect for storing accessories like a cell phone charger, documents or other important belongings

A great feature about this product is that it is a rolling garment bag so there won’t ever be a need to strap it over your shoulder and lug it around. It has two 80mm inline skate wheels.

Finally one of the most important features of this bag is that you are able to take this as a carry-on garment bag onto the plane!

Briggs & Riley Baseline Deluxe Garment Bag

This is the Baseline Deluxe Garment Bag by Briggs & Riley. Probably one of the best brands of luggage you could consider on the market and this carry-on garment bag is no exception.

The Baseline garment bag does have a pretty standard look with black and olive as their two colors to choose from, so nothing flashy from Briggs & Riley here.

Briggs & Riley provide us with great space to work with to pack anywhere from 4 to 6 suits which is perfect for a week long business trip. They’ve added a removable extension panel which allows it to accommodate longer garments, whether it is suit pants or dresses.

Inside we will find 4 separate zippered compartments on one side, 3 of them being mesh. On the other side we have two more zippered mesh pockets in the corners and elastic pouches on the bottom which are perfect for shoes. There is also a removable waterproof pocket that is snapped into place.

This garment bag also comes with a removable shoulder strap with a non-slip shoulder pad and a couple garment bag hooks as well. The outside is made with a tough ballistic nylon but if that doesn’t hold up, Briggs & Riley have a lifetime warranty that even covers airline damage; by far the best warranty in the business.

And to answer the most popular question, this Briggs & Riley Baseline garment bag is able to be used as a carry-on!

Our criteria for best garment bags

When looking at garment bags there are a couple factors that come straight to mind that we would want to cover. To start the first thing that seems blatantly obvious that we would want out of a garment bag is, does it keep our clothes wrinkle free? This is simple, if the answer is no, it doesn’t get on the list.

If it does, then I want to see what unique features this particular garment bag may have and what is keeping the clothes wrinkle free. Also how is the organization of the bag, does it only have a central compartment for clothes or does it organize the inside and outside of the bag to maximize storing capacity.

One factor that is not as high on this list is if it is able to be used as a carry-on. Now most people might say “but that’s the most important part”, well it’s a consideration but not everyone that uses a garment bag needs it to be a carry-on. Many people who use garment bags are traveling by train or automobile or even ship. For those bags in the list, that did not meet carry-on requirements, I offered comparable alternatives.

Lily Bloom ‘On The Prowl’ Spinner for Women

This is the “On the Prowl” spinner suitcase by Lily Bloom. While this piece is amazing, the luggage in general by Lily Bloom is absolutely fantastic and always has a great looking design. Lily Bloom offers similar spinner luggage in a couple other designs. These include the Desert Sierra, Forest, What a Hoot and Wildwoods, all equally impressive in their design.

A neat feature about Lily Bloom that a lot of people may not realize is that each piece is made from a signature fabric that is actually created from recycled plastic bottles. Not only is it stylish but also environmentally friendly!

Lily Blooms durability with its luggage has been tested time and time again and they can definitely hold their own. When we tested this suitcase out the fabric exterior held up extremely well considered it’s made of recycled plastic.

The luggage also utilizes reinforced handle poles so that they are durable and provide extra strength for those numerous trips. It also does a great job at protecting your spinner wheels so that they do not break. Lily Bloom suitcases are very well designed to stand the test of time. If that’s not enough for you they also offer a 5 year warranty!

The functionality of the Lily Bloom luggage is top notch. While it doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles, what it does, it gets right. For example, we’re always trying to avoid airline fees right, so Lily Bloom makes sure to make their suitcase with a lightweight construction.

This is the Baseline Large Expandable Spinner by Briggs & Riley. This one is pretty tame with its design and color selection but design plays a very small role in the over factoring of best spinner luggage.

The Briggs & Riley Baseline is aptly name as the colors are very much a baseline. They include black, navy and olive. The suitcase itself is constructed of 95% nylon, 3% aluminum and 2% rubber and in case it matters to you, it is imported.

When it comes to durability it doesn’t get much better than Briggs & Riley. To go back to the material used in the construction of this excellent spinner luggage, the Baseline is made with ballistic nylon which is perfect for resisting abrasions, dirt and moisture.

The best warranty offered in the industry in my opinion comes from B&R. They offer the, SIMPLE AS THAT WARRANTY, which is a lifetime warranty.

You don’t have to be the original owner, have a receipt or even explain what happened; you simply have to pay for the shipping to the repair shop. It really is a lifetime warranty that is unbeatable. They even cover airline damage.

While the price tag is up there, it’s worth it in my opinion if you are even considering spending half of that on another product because the bag is basically guaranteed forever and you’ll never have any worries.

The functionality of Briggs & Riley is nothing to look past either. Obviously it comes with the spinner wheels for effortless navigation and some other basic features such as garment securing panels an exterior zippered pocket and exterior SpeedThru pocket for quick access to documents at security checkpoints. But it also offers a few neat features you don’t see in other luggage.

It comes with a garment suiter that holds 1-2 suits and prevents wrinkling with its foam roll bar, an outsider handle for wrinkle-free flat packing which helps with interior capacity and if you needed more room it also has a CX expansion-compression system. This system increases capacity by 26% and is easily compressed with a push of a button!

Although it’s a little of the heavy side and the price tag is a little high, it’s absolutely top notch quality that will last you, well, forever!

Nicole Miller Jardin Expandable Spinner

This is the Jardin 24” Spinner by Nicole Miller. The Jardin is made for those that are seeking an eloquent style while still getting some decent functionality. The Nicole Miller spinner comes in two variations, black and mauve which is basically a fancy word for purple.

The Jardin screams sophistication as it’s made with luxurious tweed prints and accented with gold colored zippers and handle.

The durability of the Jardin expandable has done well during my first run through with the piece of luggage. We took it on a short 3 day roundtrip flight. I was surprised to find that it did not have any scuffs or scratches and it held up very well.

The zippers are doing a great job as well as the retractable handle. Overall I’m thoroughly impressed. The only concern is that I was unable to find any warranty listed anywhere. Luckily the price tag isn’t bad at all.

The Nicole Miller Jardin’s functionality is nothing to brag about but it does a fine job. It comes with those 360 degree spinner wheels that everyone loves, telescoping push button handles, lots of pockets to store additional items, is extremely well balanced and of course it is expandable.

This is the Andiamo Elegante Spinner. Andiamo is an Italian company that specializes in luggage and Andiamo translates to “Let’s go”, very fitting!

The Andiamo Elegante luggage comes in a couple of colors, black pearl, gold and quartz. My favorite is bar far the black pearl, who wouldn’t love saying that name.

The design of the Elegante is unique in that it’s created with groove all along its exterior. It’s made outer shell is made of 100% polycarbonate and an alloy metalized finish.

The durability of a spinner suitcase like this is pretty impressive with the tough hardside polycarbonate body. Its aluminum magnesium frame doesn’t hurt either, making it very lightweight and strong while providing that sleek profile everyone desires.

The wheels are well made with double spinners for each corner which provide an effortless glide and the handle of the Elegante is quite durable as well. If for any reason you have any issues with your gear coming undone, which I highly doubt, then Andiamo also offers a 10 year warranty for your peace of mind!

The Andiamo Elegante has some standard functionality that you would expect in travel gear especially for one in this price range.

The Chatelet by Delsey Paris is a beautiful piece of luggage made by one of the best luggage makers in the business. Delsey Paris produces great travel gear and the Chatelet is no exception.

Delsey offers the Chatelet in a few color options but “Champagne” is definitely my favorite. But I promise you this Delsey Paris spinner, regardless of what style you go with, will get you many compliments.

The durability of the Chatelet is excellent as it is constructed with 100% polycarbonate which makes it not only lightweight but very durable with its hard shell.

The wheels are excellently made and glide very well which is what you would expect with a piece of spinner luggage. Also if you’re a little too rough with your Delsey Chatelet then don’t worry as they offer a fantastic 10 year warranty!

This Chatelet offers some unique features that I’ve never seen in a suitcase before. My favorite by far is the brake system. You can simply press a button and it will lock the two front wheels so you can even leave it on a ramp without worrying about it rolling away.

There is also a recessed TSA approved lock that uses a 3 digit combo, compression straps for your clothes inside the suitcase and a zippered mesh divider on the other side of the suitcase. Finally two interior bags and a hanger are included to provide you with optimal organization.

With one of the longer names on this list the Ricardo Beverly Hills Topanga Canyon is one of our more budget friendly options yet still has impeccable style!

The Ricardo suitcase comes in two simple options white and black and they sure do look great. It is made of polypropylene which gives it a beautiful hard shell exterior while also keeping it lightweight and durable. Also, should it matter, this suitcase is imported.

The Topanga Canyon Spinner is an excellent buy for the money because of a number of reasons. The durability on the Ricardo expandable luggage is amazing as it has been thrown down a flight of stairs (not on purpose) and survived without a scratch, the handle is sturdy and the wheels do a fantastic job on all different types of terrain.

American Tourister offers this spinner bag in a grey and green combo that is unique from a lot of other boring luggage. One of the best styling decisions with this piece of luggage are the wheels as they are colored green and look amazing.

The LiteSPN luggage is made of a durable polyester fabric that provides exceptional protection while also keeping it very very lightweight at only 7 lbs. Of course the whole reason of buying spinner luggage is to do awesome 360 degree rotations with your luggage right? Well you’ll be glad to know that the wheels feel very sturdy and well-made and I don’t foresee any problems with them.

Obviously if you’ve checked the price by now you understand that for this inexpensive luggage you aren’t going to get all of the greatest bells and whistles but it’s an excellent suitcase for someone who doesn’t need all that and is on a budget.

The durability with this luggage is impeccable. The fact that it is ultra lightweight luggage doesn’t hurt. It also helps with airline fees!

The handles are made of aircraft grade aluminum which also makes them extremely lightweight and able to absorb a lot of shock, it has great strength and durability.

We round off this best spinner luggage list with a staple from one of the most well-known luggage companies around, Samsonite. This is the Samsonite Winfield2 and is quite a looker.

I have to say I love the design of the exterior and particularly the charcoal color but you can also choose from orange, purple, deep blue, black, burgundy, dark blue, dark grey, deep orange and deep purple.

As I’m sure you can tell this is a hard shell spinner that is made of 100% polycarbonate which makes it not only durable but also lightweight. It’s made to absorb impacts by flexing with the pressure applied to it, then popping right back to its original shape.

The wheels are excellently made as well which provides you with a sense of comfort that they won’t fall off during your journey. The handles also are well made especially the extendable handle as it was very comfortable to use while moving through the airport.

Now while this all sounds great, accidents do happen and honestly hard shell suitcases scare me even when they are designed flawlessly. That’s why you can rest easier knowing Samsonite offers a warranty on its luggage.

The features that come with a Samsonite suitcase are typically better than your average joe suitcase and this Winfield2 is no exception. The Winfield2 suitcase, to start, comes with a TSA approved lock that is mounted on the side of the bag right above the handle.

There are a couple of factors that always goes into deciding what makes a list. These are style, durability and functionality. These are a staple, however, when a list is built specifically for spinner luggage you have to also look more closely at the actual spinner wheels and we also want to see a warranty in case you run into any issues with your luggage. The style of a suitcase is always important even if others say it’s not because nobody wants to lug around an ugly piece of luggage. We want something that looks great and stands out or at the very least looks sophisticated or clean with solid colors. It’s also important to take a look into the material the suitcases are made out of.

Quite possibly the most important aspect of any product review has to be the durability of the item, how long it will last. Because what’s the point in even considering a product if it constantly breaks or has a history of issues. The Kenneth Cole Reaction Out of Bounds carry-on makes its claim for the best hard shell budget carry-on. Now I’ll state the obvious, this carry-on isn’t the best thing to look at even though it’s offered in a number of colors but it’s extremely durable and has excellent interior design to compartmentalize and pack tightly.

This budget hard shell carry-on is made of 95% abs plastic making it extremely durable. It stood up to our tests and we didn’t see any scratches or imperfections after our test. It doesn’t hurt that it includes molded reinforced corners for impact resistance. You might think something of this durability would be heavy but the opposite is true; the construction of this carry-on is built to be light weight as it should be.

The inside of this carry-on has some great designs. It is extremely roomy and comes with a fully lined interior with zippered pockets and restraints to hold your clothes in place. The inside of the lid features a u-shaped zippered pocket that basically treats the lid like a carry-on within a carry-on and allows you to pack as much as you can without worry of it going anywhere since it is zippered, a very neat feature.

The top and side handles of the carry-on are flexible and provide easy lift and it also comes with the crowd favorite, four wheels. Although, it did seem that the wheels were a little stiff, perhaps that will get better with more use. The Kenneth Cole Reaction carry-on comes with a retractable locking handle system which has become standard on any upright.

As far as budget carry-ons go, this Travelers Choice carry-on is one of the best and actually gets our approval as the best buy. Not only does it have a great looking exterior design that stands out from the other black luggage on the carousel but it’s very functional for a budget carry-on.

Aside from the nice design, this Travelers Choice carry-on has an aluminum retractable handle with a multi-stage locking mechanism. I’ll say the handle didn’t feel that sturdy but it got the job done. It’s great for getting through the airport with its 4 free spinning wheels which allows for movement in any direction. I personally like to act like I’m juking out the other passengers as I make my way to the terminal.

One of the roomiest carry-ons on this list, it comes with the ability to expand which increases its packing capacity by 25%!! I was able to pack another day or two worth of clothes in here depending on how thick the clothing was, once it was expanded. To name some other features, this Travelers Choice comes with an assortment of interior pockets, one padded pouch for your smart phone, one for a tablet and another for accessories. There is an exterior zippered pocket for those papers and documents you need last minute while going through security. There are comfortable top and side grip handles to provide you with easy lifting and they are reinforced so they felt pretty sturdy. The Samsonite Aspire Xlite is on the lower end of the price range for our mid-priced category but if you know anything about Samsonite you know they make quality luggage. There is no exception with this Samsonite carry-on bag.

The exterior of the Samsonite upright is extremely attractive and I’m actually a fan of the red version myself. It’s made from 100% polyester so while it is a soft cover carry-on it does lack some of the protection you would receive from a hard shell carry-on!

This Aspire Xlite carry-on from Samsonite comes with everyone’s favorite luggage modification, four multi-directional spinner wheels and they work very well too! We had no trouble when pushing it through the crowds at JAX.

Samsonite’s carry-on’s interior has organization in mind. Not something you see in cheaper bags, this carry-on has a wetpak and mesh pockets to keep everything compartmentalized. The wetpak was a nifty feature that I really enjoyed using. It allowed me to store my toiletries without having to bring a separate toiletries bag. And of course the Aspire Xlite comes with compression straps to hold your clothing down.

The top and side carry handles are nicely padded which provides ample comfort when lifting this upright while it’s fully packed. Samsonite also included an increasingly more common feature, expanded storage to increase your packing capacity.

I have flown with this carry-on on JetBlue without issue but make sure to check your airline’s luggage requirements before purchasing. See what others say about their experience using this as a carry-on.

This carry-on suitcase was great; however, it did seem a tad bit heavy at times. Which is quite odd considering it’s made of polyester. Also the carry-on is not lockable so if you’re worried about your luggage being tampered with then I would look elsewhere but if you’re carrying it on it shouldn’t be a problem.

If you have ever seriously researched luggage or owned quite a few pieces in your lifetime then you should be well aware of the awesome brand of luggage gear, Tumi. This Tumi Alpha Bravo Kirtland Continental carry-on is a high end carry-on that certainly shows with its price tag.

The Tumi Kirtland Continental has an interesting style. It’s unlike most soft cover suitcases or carry-ons in the sense that it has grey camo as an option for your color and honestly at first I wasn’t a fan but the more I look it over the more appealing it becomes. It is designed with a ballistic nylon that keeps the weight down but also makes it very durable.

The second thing that stood out to me is the exterior pockets on this carry-on. There are three pockets on the front which allow you to store chargers, papers or other documents that you might need handy while getting your international travel on.

The inside of the Tumi carry-on mimics this as the inside lid also has three divided compartments for efficient organization. There are also compression straps that hold your belongings together so they are not shifted during your travel.

The Tumi Kirtland Continental carry-on is expandable, comes with 4 recessed wheels with wheel skids, a 3 stage telescoping handle and a leather accented top carrying handle that is extremely comfortable to use when you need to actually carry your luggage instead of rolling it.

It actually allows you to store up to 100 different fingerprints so you’re able to use both hands or allow a loved one or friend to have access to it as well. It’s great because there’s no need for keys or codes!

This digital carry-on not only thinks about its locking mechanism to keep your belongings safe but it also utilizes puncture resistant zippers which are resistant against pen and tool attacks!

The SMART Executive features a 3500MaH built in charger that provides your electronics a charge while on the go. No longer do you need to scour the airport looking for a place to plug in your dead phone.

Additionally the outside includes a 17 inch padded laptop compartment, four spinner wheels, an ergonomic handle on top and an extendable handle to either push or pull your luggage around with you.

This Executive carry-on is designed for business travelers in mind but that doesn’t mean it’s only for business purposes. Inside we do find a section that’s separated just for files and documents and a separate large compartment for your clothing and shoes as well as compression straps which have become a norm.

Many people when initially looking for smart luggage might find the Bluesmart One which we considered for this list but found too many issues with it to add to the list. It has some nifty features that the SMART Executive does not have but unfortunately they seem to be hit or miss if they work. What to Look for in Carry-on Luggage

When it comes to looking for the best carry-on luggage there are certain things that you want to pay attention to. I take into consideration quite a bit including the durability, functionality, and even the style of the bag in my decision of whether or not to purchase. If you find the right carry-on you could even consider travelling with only a carry-on bag and forgetting the checked luggage.

Style

The least important of the three but still a contributor to my decision, the styling of the carry-on bag has to have a few qualities I look for. In my decision when purchasing a carry-on bag I want something that has sleek lines and not something that’s bulky or obtrusive. This not only looks more streamlined but also helps when trying to fit into the cages that size your luggage or when trying to stuff it into an overhead bin. I like options when it comes to color as well as sometimes I want something other than black. Don’t get me wrong the majority of my luggage is a sleek, crisp looking checkered black but occasionally some color looks good as well. Now while we all want to look our best, this can sometimes extend to your luggage as well but again this is the least important factor. Style maybe accounts for 10% of the overall ranking and doesn’t have a lot of weight on my overall decision of what carry-on bags to include in this list.

Functionality

Functionality is a huge contributor in my decision on what to include in this list. It accounts for 40% of the overall ranking. When it comes to functionality I’m looking for the bag to have something interesting or unique to add in addition to the most basic features that we have come to expect with our carry-on luggage. Now this may be easier said than done for the more expensive carry-on suitcases but even the simplest features on a cheaper carry-on suitcase to help improve my time traveling is what I’m looking for. Traveling can be stressful enough as it is, that’s why I’m always looking for something to improve my experience. Some things I look for are I want there to be compression straps, an extendable handle and a clear sense of organization inside the luggage in addition to its unique features. I also make sure that each of these features work as intended, especially the wheels. To go strolling through the airport only to have a wheel fall off is miserable, especially if you’re in a huge rush at a big airport like JFK for example.

Durability

The most important aspect when it comes to luggage in my mind is its durability and it accounts for 50% of my decision on what to include in this list. What’s the point in having a great looking carry-on with neat features if it doesn’t last you more than a few trips or a few months. When looking at durability, I take into consideration how the exterior holds up to rough handling like you would expect at an airport. I examine how the handles fair through various scenarios and rough housing. I expect the wheels to deal with pavement, cement, carpet and even gravel and if it’s not up to the task for any of those then it doesn’t make the list. Because if you can’t roll the damn thing, then there’s no point in considering the other aspects of the carry-on bag. Along with this one should also consider not just the durability of your carry-on but even the items inside. If you’ve had trouble with lost luggage or missing items in your suitcase before, consider looking for a carry-on that has some sort of locking mechanism or ability to lock, just make sure it’s TSA compliant.

Maximum Carry-on Size

Each airline is going to be a little bit different in their requirements for your carry-on. With most airlines as a general rule of thumb, you can get away with carry-on luggage that is 22″ x 9″ x 14″. Again this will vary from airline to airline and you might have to end up checking that luggage or have room to spare but it’s always best to check ahead so you’re not surprised at the gate with an extra change for having to check your luggage on the spot.
